Poetry Club Austin 2012

I Can’t Write a Poem Forget it! You must be kidding! I don’t have a pencil, I never had Poetry Club before, My hands are tired, I have to go to the bathroom, I don’t know how to type, I’m too frustrated, I have to leave, My nose is bleeding, Time’s up ? Uh oh! All I have is a dumb list of excuses. You like it? Really? No kidding. Thanks a lot. Would you like to see another one?

Who Am I Riddle Poem 1 I am an animal. 2 I can be big or small. 3 I can be in or out. 4 I can be a pet. 5 I’m needed if you’re blind. Who am I?

!!!I AM A DOG!!!

I Am Poem I am happy and creative I wonder how the world moves I hear a dog barking I see a dog running through a field I want to be a dog I am happy and creative I pretend I am a dog I feel the soft fur of my dog I touch the soft fur on a dog’s head I worry a dog will get hurt I cry when dogs attack

I Am Poem (cont’d) I understand dogs are good pets I say dogs make good k-9 officers I dream about my dog Zoe I try to teach her to roll over I hope to get another beagle I am happy and creative

My Monster Poem My monster is called Addison My monster has a body like little acorn Eyes like tiny button A nose like smooth blanket A mouth like a bumpy hill Legs like short toothpicks And arms like an octopus

Monster Poem (cont’d) My monster is as friendly as a beagle puppy As clever as a secret spy As loud as a baby screaming As smelly as dead bees And as frightening as a thunderstorm

Color Poetry Green is a pleasing tree in spring Yellow is glowing sunshine and makes me feel awake Brown is my dog in the mud Black is a dark night White is the clean snow

Diamonte Poem Hot Searing, humid Swimming, playing, biking Sun, summer, ice cream, winter Snowing, freezing, chilling Frigid, chattering Cold

Limerick There once was a girl named Grace Who had a gross looking face People screamed And dreamed That someday Grace would go to another place!

Cinquain Puppies Happy, loving Barking, chewing, running My playmates, my cute companions Beagles

Favorite Poem of Mine My Dog My Be A Genius My dog may be a genius, and in fact there’s little doubt. He recognizes many words unless I spell them out. If I so much as whisper “walk” he hurries off at once to fetch his leash… it’s evident my dog is not a dunce. I can’t say “food” in front of him, I spell f-o-o-d, And he goes wild unless I spell His t-r-e-a-t, But recently this tactic Isn’t working out too well I think my d-o-g has learned to s-p-e-l-l. By James Stevenson

Keep a Poem in Your Pocket And a picture in your head And you’ll never feel lonely At night when you’re in bed. The little poem will sing to you The little picture will bring to you A dozen dreams to dance to you So… Keep a picture in your pocket And a poem in your head ~by Beatrice Schenck Regniers
