Characters The main characters are Peter Hatcher and his little brother Fudge. Peter is in 6th grade and Fudge drives him crazy! Fudge is 5 years old and is a total maniac. Fudge is always messing things up for Peter. Another character is Sheila Tubman. Sheila is also in 6th grade and Peter hates her and call her the Cootie Queen. Sheila has black hair and blue eyes and she hates Peter too. Jimmy is Peter’s best friend.

Settings The story takes place in the present in Maine at Peter’s summer rental house which is next door to Sheila’s house. Other settings are the library, the book store, the ice cream store and the garden.

Problem The problem is that Peter is moving next door to Sheila Tubman in the summer for 3 weeks. Peter does not want to be next to Sheila because he does not like her but Fudge wants to marry her just because he wants someone to sleep with so monsters won’t get him!

Events: The first thing that happened is that Fudge told Peter that he was going to marry Sheila Tubman. Peter pretended to faint. Then Peter’s mom told him that they were going on vacation to Maine for 3 weeks, but that they were living next door to the Tubmans! Peter was not happy but then he found out that his best friend Jimmy was going to be there too. The drive to Maine took 10 hours. When Peter got there and let his dog Turtle out of the car Sheila started screaming for help. She said that Turtle was smelly and disgusting, but she liked her sister’s dog Jake. Then turtle got sprayed by a skunk and Peter thought maybe he was pretty stinky and disgusting! They had to wash poor Turtle in tomato juice and he really did not like that! Then Sheila talked Peter’s mom into letting her babysit Fudge. Peter was mad because Sheila was getting paid, so Peter’s mom said they could split the money if they watched Fudge together. Sheila didn’t want to share the money with Peter so Peter tried to get her in trouble. When Peter was at the town library with Fudge he met a really nice girl named Isobel who worked at the library.. Peter was in love with Isobel and he wanted to impress her. But then Fudge had a big tantrum in the library in front of Isobel because he couldn’t find the book he wanted and Peter was totally embarrassed. When Peter and his grandma, Fudge and Jimmy went blueberry picking Fudge turned blue! He turned blue because he ate all the blueberries they picked. His face was blue, his hands were blue, he had blue in his hair and his tongue was blue! Peter said he was going to have blue gas too and his grandma gave him some peppermint medicine. Peppermint helps bad stomachs.
