Do Now In a survey, 75% of 400 parents said they give their children fruit as a snack. How many parents of those surveyed is this? Solve: 27.50 ÷ 5.5 Sweety’s Ice Cream sells ice cream by weight. They charge $2.95 per pound. Suppose your ice cream weights 0.42 pounds. How much will your ice cream cost? Zella (Ms. Dalton’s dog) weighs 65.73 pounds. Another dog at the dog park weighs 45. 98 pounds. How much more does Zella weigh?

Vocabulary Legs of a triangle: Right Triangle: a triangle with a right angle (90 degrees) Isosceles Triangle: a triangle with 2 equal sides (see example from legs of a triangle)

Bringing it all together As we can see, two right triangles make a rectangle. Considering this, it makes sense that the formula for the area of a triangle is: area= 1/2bh We are multiplying the base x the height, and dividing it by 2 since it is only half the amount of a rectangle. You can also see that with isosceles triangles, two of them would make a parallelogram
