Temperature Mars Mars’ average temperature is -81°F (-63°C) Its temperature can range from 68°F (20 °C) to -220°F (-140°C) Earth Earth’s thin atmosphere protects the Earth from extreme temperatures and keeps heat inside. Earth’s temperature ranges from -126° to 136°F (-88° to 58°C)

Air Pressure Mars Mars’ air pressure ranges between 6 and 10 millibars. A millibar is about 1/1000th of the air pressure on Earth. Earth Earth’s air pressure at sea level is about 14.7 lbs. per square inch. That is 1,013 millibars.

Description of Atmosphere Mars Mars has an extremely thin atmosphere made of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon, and small amounts of other gases. In the cold season, the CO2 freezes, and in the warm season it is released back into the atmosphere. Earth Earth’s atmosphere is composed of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 9% argon, .03% carbon dioxide, and traces of other gases.
