Day on the Hill Next Steps Please take a moment to visit the Day on the Hill website and register ASAP at: http://www.mypls.com/PAIUDOTH/tabid/3630/Default.aspx.   PAIU will be conducting two Zoom webinars to assist IUs in preparing for our DOTH: March 30 at 9:00 a.m.: an overview of the DOTH and direction for scheduling meetings with legislators. Day on the Hill Next Steps You are encouraged to contact your local legislators to schedule meetings during the 9:30 – 12:00 time slot or following lunch. Day on the Hill Next Steps To schedule meetings: Visit the PAIU PLS website; click on Legislator Information and choose the House or Senate link. OR Click on the Find Your Legislator tab, and click on House IU Lookup or Senate IU Lookup. Use their Harrisburg office phone number to schedule a meeting. Day on the Hill Next Steps To schedule meetings: You may be redirected to the legislator’s scheduler. Again, explain who you are and why you are requesting a meeting. Let them know you are from the legislator’s home district. Request only a brief amount of time. Record your meeting time on the PLS website. Day on the Hill Next Steps Local Legislator Meetings Tom

Arrive a few minutes early. Let the person at the front desk of the office know who you are and with whom you’re meeting Expect to wait in a small area or in the hallway until the legislator is ready. Be prepared to meet with staff instead of or in addition to the legislator Do not be surprised if you meet in the hallway, especially if you have a big group. Share your supporting documents. Introduce yourself and state the purpose of your visit Introduce yourself and your role at the IU Give a brief overview of the services your IU provides. State that you are here to discuss the handouts provided to you by PAIU. Be clear, concise and stick to the topic! Share your supporting documents. Listen carefully and answer questions truthfully. If you don’t know the answer, say “I’m not sure, but we will find out and get back to you.” Always thank the legislator/staff and be sure you have their contact information. Day on the Hill Talking Points As we review and develop the talking points, please ask questions. It is important that you are comfortable with these, so that we all give the same message. Topics may include: Requesting an $11.7 million funding increase for Preschool EI Supporting the Governors proposed $65 million increase for Pre-K counts Depending on the status of these issues on April 25, our talking points might include opposition to the proposed $50 million cut for Transportation reimbursement, and opposition to the proposed elimination of property taxes.  Day on the Hill Talking Points We will talk to legislators and their staff about 3-4 topics when we visit with them.
