Where Should New Houses go in Newcastle? Green belt or Brownfield sites? Where Should New Houses go in Newcastle?

Urban Sprawl This is the name given for the growth of cities into the countryside as transport improved. To try and stop this GREEN BELTS were made around cities to protect the countryside. Here building was highly restricted. However there is a lot of pressure for development of this RURAL – URBAN FRINGE One example is the proposed NEWCASTLE GREAT PARK SCHEME. Task: Title – Green Belt or Brownfield, Where should new houses go in Newcastle Answer Question 1 page 29

Proposed site

What will it provide 2500 homes High tech industry and jobs 125 new ICT firms Mix of schools, shops, businesses and leisure Sounds Great? Who might be for it and who would be against it? Task: Answer question 3 into your books Ie.. What would you want to ask town planners about this project. Who, what, where, why, how

But we have to have them. Work on your tables to place the statements in the correct sections – you should have Task: Persuasive writing

Task: Persuasive writing Write a persuasive piece of writing entitled Green belt land must be used for housing if there are to be enough homes for our children to live in. You must back it up with evidence. Hint Ist sentence – set the scene I like to use PEE Point, Evidence, Explanation

PEE Question: Why does Mr Piers put the fan on when MYP2 come into his class? Point: - Myp2 really do smell terribly. Evidence: For example Joe has not washed his socks in 2 weeks. Explanation: This means that the classroom smells of old cheese and therefore needs a fan.

Moving back to the centre Originally land was expensive in the centre. Why? However the centre eventually became congested, dirty and busy meaning new industries moved to the outside. What other benefits did this new location have? This left the centres disused and derelict. Councils are now aiming to use these BROWNFIELD sites to encourage people to move in.
