Grade 7 and 8 Mathematics 2017-2018

Keys to Success The key to success in math is consistent effort and responsibility. I am available for any problems the students may encounter, but they must take an active role in their learning.

Extra Help Extra Help is available Mondays at lunch, but also by appointment.

Homework Used as a method of practicing the skills and outcomes taught in class Can be completed with me at lunch or after school Will be recorded on website, but it is the students’ responsibility to record it in class

Expectations Homework will … be connected to what students are learning in class be within a student’s ability to complete on their own be mindful of students’ access to help and other resources at home be coordinated by teachers through a school-wide approach Homework will not … require parents or guardians to teach students new skills or ideas be used to punish or discipline a student be assigned on days of cultural or religious significance for students and their families

Assessment and Evaluation All assessments and evaluations will be marked using the following school-wide rubric based on the provincial rubric:

In-Depth knowledge and understanding of content and concepts Competent knowledge and understanding of content and concepts Developing knowledge and understanding of content and concepts Limited knowledge and understanding of content and concepts 4 In-Depth 3+ Competent 3 2+ Developing 2 1+ Limited 1 Degrees of MEETING Degrees of NOT YET MEETING

Level Descriptor 4 In-depth knowledge and understanding of content and concepts. Able to extend the application of related skills to a variety od contexts. 3 Competent knowledge and understanding of content and concepts. Appropriate application of the related skills. 2 Developing knowledge and understanding of content and concepts. Developing in the application of the related skills. 1 Limited knowledge and understanding of content and concepts. Limited application of related skills.

Assessment and Evaluation All work will demonstrate student achievement of one or more of the learning outcomes for math. Report card grades will reflect how many outcomes the students have achieved and the level at which they have demonstrated their understanding of these outcomes.

Assessment and Evaluation Assessment and evaluation techniques may include: Observations Problem solving activities Work samples Models Anecdotal records

Assessment and Evaluation Check-Ins Math Journals Assignments Interviews Quizzes Tests

Report Card Descriptors 90-100%- Demonstrates excellent understanding and application of concepts and skills in relation to the learning outcomes. 80-89% - Demonstrates very good understanding and application of concepts and skills in relation to the learning outcomes. 70-79% - Demonstrates good understanding and application of concepts and skills in relation to the learning outcomes. 60-69% - Demonstrates satisfactory understanding and application of concepts and skills in relation to the learning outcomes.

Report Card Descriptors 50-59%- Demonstrates minimal understanding and application of concepts and skills in relation to the learning outcomes. Below 50%- Has not met minimum requirements of the course INS - Insufficient evidence to determine a grade IP – In progress until all components of the course are completed.
