What will your child learn in Social Studies this year? Geography overview and The Eastern Hemisphere: Europe Africa Australia, Antarctica and Oceania Russia and Eurasia Asia

Eastern Hemisphere continued As we explore each part of the Eastern Hemisphere we will be using the 5 themes of geography : Movement Human/Environment and Interactions Region Location Place

What will your child learn in Science? History of the Earth Earth Systems and Structure Weather and climate Space Systems

ELA: Reading Consists of: Comprehension(Anthology and Novel Studies) Fluency: Reader’s Theater, Buddy reading , Prayer Partner Reading Vocabulary: Definitions and Applying orrect context to writing

ELA: Writing overview Consists of: Language Mechanics and Spelling Written Expression: Varied sentence styles (simple, compound, complex) Incorporate sentence styles into writing Writing pieces compiled into a portfolio Integrating Social Studies and Science into Writing Explore Poetry styles

ELA: Listening and Speaking Quizzes on videos watched Oral presentations Peer sharing Peer tutoring Following directions (everyday work)

How will your child learn Social Studies, Science and ELA this year? Writing study cards to be studied each night for homework(breaks up large amounts of info in chunks) Various projects to complete in class and a few long term projects to be completed at home and class Outlines for notes(children will be filling in during class)

LATE POLICY FOR PROJECTS: 1ST DAY LATE : 90 2ND DAY LATE: 80 3RD DAY LATE : 70 4TH DAY LATE : 60 NOT ACCEPTED AFTER DAY 4

HONOR ROLL Principal’s Honors: all grades 95 or higher First Honors: all grades 90 or above Second Honors: all grades 85 or above 3 or 4 is required in all other areas

Other activities include: Technology – use of many resources such as: I Pads and smartboard Many apps Different forms of assessments to help visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners

6th Grade “Collaborating” Throughout the year Miss Marino and I will work closely on several projects with the children Projects will be cross curricular

Reminders: Test Folders will come home Friday- return tests signed by Tuesday Teacher Web- part of homework each night is to go on both teachers website( these were bookmarked in class Monday on their I Pads) All homework will be written nightly on my page All change in transportation in the pm must be written in a note Extra curricular activities: it is the child’s responsible to complete missed work
