Why Equality Management? The City as local municipality Has to execute laws Has to serve its citizens – all of them! Products and services have to meet the needs of all citizens – they are not an end in itself We cannot ignore more than half of the population! The City as employer The City is a role-model for other key employers of the region. If we want the best employees, we have to offer attractive conditions – for both women and men! Management Objectives Management has to set standards. Management has to be innovative. To constantly optimise products and services is a clear management assignment.

Requirements for successful Equality Managament Policy Makers (declared intention on executive level to implement strategy and a clear mandate for implementation) Ressources (HR, time, money, …) Gender Expertise Gender Perspective (put your gender glasses on!) Planning Process (structured procedures) Quick successes at the beginning! Gender Mainstreaming is a Top-Down-Process: Policy - and decision- makers are the key persons!
