Homeland Security Standards Database www.hssd.us

Homeland Security Standards Database A collaborative project of ANSI, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, standards developing bodies, and other stakeholders www.hssd.us

Homeland Security Standards Database Provides one-stop access to standards that relate to homeland security and that are critical for first responders, local government officials, and others charged with keeping America safe www.hssd.us

Homeland Security Standards Database Identifies and classifies standards that are pertinent to homeland security in a way that can be easily searched or browsed www.hssd.us

Homeland Security Standards Database Includes an automated alerting service that notifies stakeholders of new and revised standards www.hssd.us

FUNCTIONALITY The database offers both “Search” by keyword or document number and “Browse” features

BROWSE Users select from predefined options that are based on a taxonomy established by the Department of Homeland Security Example: This query will return all database records classified for Detection and Prevention of Radiological or Nuclear Threats

BROWSE Users may select multiple categories during a single query. Results will be returned in a single search report.

RESULTS Initial results of the browse query are provided in summary format. Additional detail for each record is available.

RESULTS Detailed document reports provide information about the developer, document content, approval and access.

SEARCH The user may also search the entire database for a requested term or phrase or for a document number.

RESULTS Initial results of the search query are provided in summary format. Additional detail for each record is available.

Example: In this example, reference to the search term “radiological” was found in the document’s Scope Statement. RESULTS Detailed document reports provide information about the developer, document content, approval and access.

SEARCH A numeric enquiry will launch a search for a specific document number or string of numeric characters

Example: References to the numeric string “1061” were found in eleven (11) documents. RESULTS Initial results of the search query are provided in summary format. Additional detail for each record is available.

SEARCH An “Advanced Search” feature provides the user with options to construct more refined database queries.

Example: This search will be for records in the collection that are (1) published by the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) (2) contain both the word “radiation” and the word “detector” (3) within the title field only FUNCTIONALITY Keyword queries (single or multiple words) can be accompanied by instructions to search only certain fields or collections

ALERTS An enquiry that will be repeated on a regular basis can be automated and saved as an “Alert” within the user’s profile “Stemming” finds both the word or character string used, as well as words or strings that begin with the word or string (such as plurals)

ALERTS A user must register on the hssd.us website in order to create a profile and save a search as an alert. “Cookies” must be enabled.

ALERTS The user will be prompted to assign a name for the alert. Regular searches do not require registration or sign on.

ALERTS A dialogue box will confirm when the profile has been successfully created.

ALERTS Profiles/Alerts are managed (“Create”, “Edit” or “Delete”) by the user via his or her personal profiles page.

ALERTS As changes are necessary, alerts and profiles can be edited. Search enquiries are launched again and new alerts can be saved.
