Separation of Powers x Under Articles 1, 2, and 3 of the Constitution, the powers of the federal government are divided between three separate parts, or branches. This idea, called the separation of powers, comes from the guiding principles of the Constitution and is key to the success of our federal government. This principle keeps each governing body from having too much power. It was one way to prevent establishing a government that could overpower individual and states’ rights. © Karalynn Tyler 2015
