Cut the layer cut into 3 pieces Be careful not to ripe or break the cake. Use the 2 flat pieces for the top and bottom.

Soak the layers with a syrup - Syrup helps keep the cake moist - Can flavor the syrup

Fill the layer cake with filling Icing or frosting Pastry cream Ganache Fruit filling Whipped cream Buttercream

Crumb coat or dirty ice the cake - Crumb coat catches all the crumbs so they don’t show on finished icing
