Contents Disadvantages of MIPv4 Mobile IPv6 Security Issues in MIPv6 Solutions to MIPv6 Conclusion

Disadvantages of MIPv4 address shortage issue in IPv4 MIPV4 requires functionalities like FA and FN IPV4 must be configured either manually or through Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) IPSec provides security for IPv4 packets but this is optional

Mobile IPv6 ADDRESS SHORTAGE issue is made much more worse due to this. Mobile IPv6 security protocol focuses on binding updates authentication. Unlike, IPv4 whose security is dealt by IPSec capable of providing security to transport and application layers.

Security Issues in Mobile IPv6

Secure Route Optimization

Connection Hijacking

Firewall Traversal Issue Mobile Ipv6 doesn't support Firewalls 3 scenarios are to be considered : Firewall located at MN present located network Firewall located at CN network Firewall located at HA network

Eavesdropping It is a type of theft information attack Two types Passive attack Active attack

Denial of Service To make Mobile IPv6 network resource unavailable to the intended users Two types Basic Denial of Service Flooding

Solutions to the Security Issues

RETURN ROUTABILITY PROTOCOL

Cryptographically Generated Address CGA has Security parameter, determines its strength against trail and error attacks Purpose is to prevent stealing and spoofing of existing IPV6 addresses Like a public key cryptography which is used to authenticate the BU message sent from MN to HA

Conclusion Even by implementing in the real world, we cannot guarantee 100 percent security free mobile node communication But this is a protocol to deal with the next generation Internet
