CCCnz 2017 – session 3

JOHN 6 v 25-69

BOATS FROM TIBERIAS

LOOKING FOR BREAD

John 6 v 25-27 The Opening Gambit “Rabbi, When did you get here?” “I know what you are looking for… you ate the loaves and had your fill…” There are two kinds of food, spoils and endures to eternal life.

John 6 v 28-29 OK We’ll Play “What must we do?” “Believe in the one he has sent”

John 6 v 30-34 Stick with the program “What sign will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do” Any chance of some manna? “The bread of God is the bread that comes from heaven and gives life to the world” “Sir, always give us this bread”

John 6 v 34-42 Jesus drives the conversation “I am the bread of life.” Coming, believing, eternal life. Grumble “This is Jesus, we know his parents. How can he say he came down from heaven”

John 6 v 43-52 Jesus addresses the grumbling “I am the living bread. Whoever eats this bread will live forever” “This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world” Then the Jews began to argue

John 6 v 53-60 Jesus continues teaching “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up at that last day” Disciples “This is hard teaching.”

John 6 v 61-68 The end of the story Aware that the disciples are grumbling. “The Spirit gives life” Many turn back and no longer follow The 12 remain” Do you want to leave too?” “Lord to whom shall we go?”

John 6 v 68 “Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to know that you are the Holy One of God” New understanding, deeper commitment
