Figure 1 Diagnostic algorithm for patients with pleural effusion. Dotted lines mean that the test may have been performed at different points, according to clinical manifestations. The American Journal of Medicine 2003 115, 365-370DOI: (10.1016/S0002-9343(03)00423-6)

Figure 3 Interferon gamma levels for specific patient groups. The group of patients with hematologic neoplasms includes 21 patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, 1 with Hodgkin's lymphoma, 3 with MALT lymphomas, 1 with agnogenic myeloid metaplasia, 1 with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and 1 with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia. The group of patients with connective tissue, vasculitis, or granulomatous diseases includes 5 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, 4 with systemic lupus erythematosus, 2 with Wegener's granulomatosis, 1 with Churg-Strauss granulomatosis, 1 with rheumatic polymyalgia, and 1 with Still's disease. The graph on the right includes the group of patients with tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, as well as the group of patients with tuberculosis and transplantation, including 2 patients with renal transplants and 1 patient with a liver transplant. Note the change in scale for the y-axis. The American Journal of Medicine 2003 115, 365-370DOI: (10.1016/S0002-9343(03)00423-6)
