Supported Self-supply as a key to reach water, food and poverty SDGs Proposition To reach SDG 6 and SDG1 in rural areas, it is more cost-effective to use water subsidies for Family wells than for Communal wells

Subsaharan Africa How do we reach the last mile? 80% of the unserved live in rural areas, often small communities High cost/cap for communities of <250 people (50 - 300$) A solution?.. Supported Self-supply Improve existing, make new dug / drilled wells Possible with SMARTechs, 100-500$/well, 60m deep

Examples 250.000 family wells in Zimbabwe. Windlass 30.000 family wells in Bolivia. EMAS wells, pumps 20.000 fam. Ethiopia,Uganda, Baptist “Water clubs” 60.000 families,Nicaragua, Tanzania. Rope pumps Family wells increase incomes 50 - 220$/yr (Nic. Tz.) Advantage Family systems compared to Communal Families invest, do maintenance, share water Impr. family well = SDG6 + SDG2 (food) + SDG1 (poverty)

Suggestions Support family wells (recharge+pump+water filter) Use “the family power”. (labour, material) NGOs, Governments support 30$/cap. (For pump, filter, training). This is 30% of the total cost, family does rest Marshall plan for capacity building. 3 Ts Supply chains of SMARTechs. Train the local private sector via Vocational training. Pilots via WET Centres, SMART Centres,.. www.smartcentregroup.com
