Despite the advances in the technologies of healthcare and the increment in accumulated knowledge in this field, infections that are taking place in the hospitals are still a serious problem. Having the basic principles and precautions for preventing the infection in the hospitals done in proper way. These precautions may include: selecting the right method of sterilization and applying it, the pre-cleaning/decontamination of used machines, transportation, washing/disinfection, inspection, packaging, sterilization, and storage. The object of packaging is to preserve and protect the sterilized medical instruments from getting contaminated until it's time to use it.
During the process of packaging, one of the most important points to take into consideration is selecting the right proper materials. Has to be suitable for the structure of material that is to be sterilized. The method of sterilization that will be used has to be convenient. Has to be compatible with the performance of sterilizer that will be used. Has to maintain a standard performance for every time it gets used. Has to be resistant to puncture or tear. Has to form a good barrier against the external factors, such as dust, humidity biological loading, etc. Has to allow the circulation of substances inside the package. Has to not make reactions with the sterilized material. Has to not contain any toxic substances. Its usage has to be easy and handy.
Two packages can be mentioned about in medical devices. The first one, internal, and it's a package that is sterilized, closed and sealed in a way that hinder the contamination. The second one, external, and is also sterilized package that is used to hinder the contamination whilst transportation.
KATSAN PACKAGING TOOLS: MEDICAL PAPER ALUMINUM PACKAGING SPOOL
1. MEDICAL PAPER + FILM Sterilization Packaging Materials Suitable for steam, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilization. When the temperature rise up to 55oC in the autoclave, the micro pores in the paper part will open allowing the ethylene oxide the enter; at the end of the process of sterilization when the temperature drops, the these micro pores get back to their previous state and become a barrier the blocks the bacteria's entrance. Medical paper provides penetration of the surface sterilant and film provides appear of the surface material.
Its tissue has to be homogeneous and its totality has to be uncorrupted. It has to not contain any empty spaces within the closing canals neither retraction or shrinkage. During closure, there would be noticeable change in the closed site and not glued points would be easily distinguishable. The production has to be waterproof. It has to be resistant to physical forces like stress, tear, water retention, air permeability, etc. ; which prevent the deformation after the process of sterilization. While the opening no particle should be formed.
3. SPOOL The spools of KATSAN were designed in big sizes in terms of minimum suture storage. In order to facilitate distinguishing between products, each spool has its own colored strips upon it. Does not leave particles behind.
