Registration process Feb. 7 - high school counselors meet with students at middle school Feb. 7-Feb. 15- students review registration materials with parents, teachers, counselor Feb. 15 – selection sheet due to history teachers Feb. 28– counselors meet with students individually at the middle school to finalize course selections

Graduation Requirements Copley High School Graduation Requirements

All students must earn a total of 21 credits that include: 4 credits of English 4 credits of math including Algebra 2 3 credits of Science 3 credits of Social Studies ½ credit of Health ½ credit of Physical Education or (PE Option) 6 elective credits (1 credit from the areas of Business/Technology, Fine Arts, or World Language)

Freshmen Requirements English 9 1 credit American History 1 credit Mathematics 1 credit Science 1 credit Electives 2-3 credits Students must take at least 6 classes per semester but no more than 7.

Health & Wellness 1/2 credit required One semester Recommended in grades 9 or 10

Physical Education courses ½ credit total = 2 semesters Fundamentals of PE (required) ¼ In addition, choose 1 of the following: Team Sports ¼ Fitness Training ¼ Individual/Dual Sports ¼ Beg./Adv. Swimming ¼ Advanced Fitness Training ¼ OR

P.E. Option A student may earn a physical education exemption by participating in 2 seasons of CHS sports, cheerleading, or marching band. Journaling is required. Sign up for PE Option during the scheduling process. A student may take and receive credit for as much physical education as he or she desires.

Things to consider… Honors/Pre-AP coursework require a teacher recommendation and may require the completion of summer reading/assignments that are due on the first day of school. Summer assignments will be posted online. Please refer to the Curriculum Guide for all prerequisites as well as future course offerings available to your students during 10-12th grade.

World Languages (Chinese, French, German, Spanish) Level I coursework is for students who have not studied the language OR for students who studied the language in 8th grader but were not recommended/ready for Level II. Level II coursework is for students that completed Level I in 8th grade and are recommended by their teacher.

World Language (Chinese, French, German, Spanish) World Language credit is NOT a graduation requirement and in some cases may be more appropriate for a student to pursue in 10th-12th grade. Consider completing 2-3 years of the same World Language if you are college bound.

Non-traditional fine arts coursework: Photoshop Plus, Modern Photography, Intro to Theater & Theater II, Woodworking, Visual Communication, Engineering, Drafting & Design & Yearbook

State assessment graduation requirement Beginning with the class of 2018, students must: Complete all required coursework for graduation AND 2. Take seven State of Ohio end of course exams

--OR-- Students must meet ONE of the following three: Earn a total of 18 graduation points on seven end-of course exams in the following subject areas: Algebra I & Geometry Biology American History American Government English 9 & English 10   Students must earn a minimum of 4 points in English. Students must earn a minimum of 4 points in Mathematics. Students must earn a minimum of 6 points in Science & Social Studies. Tests are scored on a scale of 1-5. Students studying Advanced Placement or taking dual enrollment (College Credit Plus) courses in Biology, American History or American Government may take assessments aligned to those courses in lieu of end-of-course exams to avoid double testing. --OR--

--OR-- 2. Earn a “remediation free” score on a nationally recognized college admission tests. All students will take the ACT during the spring of their junior year at no cost to the student. 3. Earn an industry-recognized credential or a state license for practice in a vocation and achieve a score that demonstrates workforce readiness and employability on a job skills assessment.

College Credit Plus – replaces post-secondary educational option Attend a mandatory College Credit Plus meeting for students and parents in February the year prior to participation. Take the ACT by April of the year prior to participation and meet the university’s admission requirements and deadlines. Sign and return to the Guidance Office the Intent to Participate Form by April 1st of the year prior to participation. More information is available on the high school website.

Athletic Eligibility Must be enrolled in and passing at least 2 ½ credits each semester Must achieve a 1.0 grade GPA for the previous grading period Athletic eligibility is the responsibility of the athlete and his/her parents. Monitor it carefully.

NCAA Eligibility Guidelines Athletes who wish to participate in sports at a Division I or Division II college or university must meet NCAA eligibility requirements.
