Contents Introduction SDGs SDGs-Goal 7-Palestine

Introduction Palestine imports most of its energy needs Palestine Produces some renewable energy Types Palestine has proven reserves of natural gas in Gaza Strip discovered in 2000 and still not utilized due to the political situation Palestine also has some oil and gas reserves in the West Bank where these reserves utilized by Israel

Tier classification of the SDG indicators Type Methodology and standards Data Tier 1 Well established and available Data regularly produced by countries Tier 2 Data not regularly produced by countries Tier 3 Not established or under development/ testing No data SDG indicators are classified into three tiers: I, II and III (see next slide) Classification depends on level of methodological development and data availability The last update of SDG Indicators is dated 21 Dec. 2016 The classification is not final and will change over time as methodologies and data availability evolve

SDG 7: "Ensure access to affordable, reliable and modern energy for all" by 2030 Indicator Tier 7.1 Ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services 7.1.1 Proportion of population with access to electricity I 7.1.2 Proportion of population with primary reliance on clean fuels and technology 7.2 Increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix 7.2.1 Renewable energy share in the total final energy consumption 7.3 Double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency 7.3.1 Energy intensity measured in terms of primary energy and GDP

SDG 7: "Ensure access to affordable, reliable and modern energy for all" by 2030 Indicator Tier 7.a By 2030, enhance international cooperation to facilitate access to clean energy research and technology, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and advanced and cleaner fossil-fuel technology, and promote investment in energy infrastructure and clean energy technology 7.a.1 International financial flows to developing countries in support of clean energy research and development and renewable energy production, including in hybrid systems* III 7.b By 2030, expand infrastructure and upgrade technology for supplying modern and sustainable energy services for all in developing countries, in particular least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing countries, in accordance with their respective programs of support 7.b.1 Investments in energy efficiency as a proportion of GDP and the amount of foreign direct investment in financial transfer for infrastructure and technology to sustainable development services

PCBS/Energy Outputs Report of Household & Transport Survey Energy Balance Detailed Energy Tables Report of Household & Transport Survey

SDGs-Goal 7 7.1.1 Access to Electricity 99% of the Palestinian households are connected to electricity network In Gaza Strip 81% of households have less than 8 hours of electricity service Palestinians pay 0.16 US Dollars/KWh which is very high compared to neighboring countries

7.1.2 Reliance on Clean Fuels and Technology 34% of households use Biomass Olive cake Industry

SDGs-Goal 7 7.1.2 Reliance on Clean Fuels and Technology 29% of households used wood as a main energy type for heating

7.1.2 Reliance on Clean Fuels and Technology 34% of households use Biomass Olive cake Industry

SDGs-Goal 7 7.2 Share of renewable energy

6 May 2018 Solar thermal/Solar Heaters Percentage of Households that use Solar Water Heaters, 2001-2015

PV 1.5% of the total installed capacity From photovoltaic

7.3.1 Energy Efficiency /intensity

SDGs-Goal 7 Energy Efficiency The Palestinian energy Authority Started an energy auditing program in 2012 They saved 25 GWh through 230 audits This constitutes less than 0.5% of the consumed electricity

Energy Efficiency Percentage of Energy Consumption by Sector, 2015
