Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP): An Introduction CCP is a community-led approach to planning, where the process is driven and owned by all community members CCP is an important tool on the path to self-governance and building capacity. It requires a unique approach to planning that can be adapted our culture and traditions It can help make a positive difference in addressing the specific issues of our community.
What is CCP? A Holistic Process undertaken with broad community participation. A comprehensive approach. Enables the community to establish a vision and implement projects to achieve this vision Helps ensure the projects and programs are thought through, make sense and are the best use of resources Integrates and links all other plans the community has produced
What is CCP? con’t A Holistic Process It is inclusive and represents the perspectives of all members Addresses key planning areas, all of which are interrelated and interdependent A unified process that defines CCP as a holistic and integrated exercise that can lead to sustainable development
Sustainable Development Meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland Commission, 1987) Takes a long term view. It encompasses all areas of our lives. Sustainable development is the guiding principle of CCP Ahousaht will decide what sustainability means and how to use CCP to achieve longevity of culture, environment and economy
CPP Benefits to the Community Provides a framework and process for the community to explore it’s core values and to establish a vision for the future and work towards achieving it. Can create positive change in a proactive way, while protecting the values of the community. Can improve the performance of the Administration and departments Enhances the community’s governance tools and capacity
Once in place, an effective CCP can: Empower the community – the community becomes more self-aware and has the tools to respond to change in an effective manner Improve performance – having a plan leads to informed decision-making. It decreases duplication, enables efficient use of resources and identifies and solves organizational problems Builds teamwork and expertise – improves communications within the governance, builds managerial and staff skills and supports capacity building efforts
