Introduction The Global Green Community is increasing considerably every year. Every Company is trying to make its ecological statement, proving that it is possible to achieve sustainability without losing quality. On February 2010 Sony Corporation launched the Sony Vaio W Series Eco Edition laptop. The name was given due to many eco-friendly innovations that Sony brought with it.

Sustainable Design 80% of the plastic body is made from recycled plastic of which 20% is from old CDs and DVDs. According to Sony, compared with the production of previous W Series models, this feature alone, accounts for a reduction of 10% in CO2 emission. This process introduces, a new way to deal with unwanted CDs and DVDs, reducing the amount that is disposed into landfills. The printed user manual was replaced with an integrated electronic version. As Sony stated, this reduced the printed user documentation by around 35%. No worry of not knowing how to dispose of the paper manual while less paper is produced.

Application of the Design in Other Product 2 CDs, DVDs and dielectrics (electrical insulators) are made of the same kind of plastic. If the dielectric layers of the PDP were made from processed CDs and DVDs instead of using raw materials, the CO2 footprint of the manufacturing of the same product would be cut down. As plasma televisions consume more energy than the others this process would attract environmentalist consumers attention for its approach to a more eco-friendly product.

Brand Image and Sales Revenue Eco Edition is part of the list of products awarded with the 2010 Good Design Award. In May 2010 Sony ranked in 7th on the 15th edition of the Greenpeace´s Guide to Greener Electronic. According to Sony the unit sales of PC´s increased in 2010 comparing with the respective quarters of 2009. Since costumers know look for portability and convenience, is presumable that laptops are on the top of these demands.

Social Behaviour Society seems to have received well the product. Online reviewers praise Sony for the ecological thinking brought to the design of the laptop, and hope that Sony continues to do the same or even better for future electronic devices.

Conclusion Sony Vaio has made its part by coming up with the sustainable idea of the Eco Edition, other counter-part companies could use the same concept to do their technologies. This could improve their image among society and consequently wining with sales. The objective is to merge the ”Electronic Era” and the “Sustainability Era” together in every future piece of technology. Gifting global wide life with more convenience and pleasances for our past, present and most important for generations to come.
