NCFE and Interfaces Meeting: DTL Andrea Pisent

DTL organization in INFN Andrea Pisent (WU coordinator, LNL) Francesco Grespan (deputy coordinator, LNL) Paolo Mereu (Mechanics design responsible, Torino), Matteo Mezzano , Carlo Mingioni, Marco Nenni, Luigi Ferrari, Paolo Bottin Michele Comunian (Beam dynamics, LNL) Luca Bellan Carlo Roncolato (Vacuum system LNL) Giorgio Mauro, Antonio Palmieri, Francesco Grespan (RF design, LNL) Marco Poggi (Beam instrumentation, LNL) Mauro Giacchini, Loris Antoniazzi, Maurizio Montis (Local Control System, LNL, TBD) Collaboration with Elettra (Trieste) for the dipole steering magnets and PS design and prototyping, Davide Castronovo and Roberto Visentini Elettra LNL Torino Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy)

Overall design Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy)

Recent achievements Forged SS tubes, kick off meeting happened, prototype realizes (SPES RFQ geometry), first delivery (tank4, tank3, partial tank1, RFQ SPES) 18th week (end April) Tender for the machining of tanks 3 and 4 concluded (approved by GE). Contract with Cinel SRL in the next weeks. Mechanical engineering group in Torino reinforced, most of the drawings for all tanks and lay our ready (tender for machining of tank 1-2-5 in CD March?). PMQ tendering on going, technical and economical offers to be evaluated next week. Rough material for tank 4 mod 3, 403 L forged Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy)

Recent achievements Physics design: closed the change for the position of the steerers (regular in betatron phase advance, less redundancy in last tanks) and for the weaker PMQ in tank5 to match the spoke section. RF Design and stabilizing system verified and bead pulling procedure under preparation (technical meeting with S. Ramberger, preliminary design of a full scale aluminium mock up). A change request for using the pulsed steerers has been prepared (approved?). Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy)

B=Beam Position monitor Q=PMQ Sy,Sx=Steerers C=ACCT B=Beam Position monitor -/+Q = defocusing/focusing effect for proton beam in the Horizontal plane Sx/Sy = Horizontal/Vertical deflection of proton beam. The Layout is the DTL “V86”: the PMQs are being purchased Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy)

Recent achievements Two DT prototypes (PMQ and BPM, same geometry as for steerers) successfully completed (machining and brazing at INFN, e-bem welding in Zanon, magnetic measurements at CERN). To be noted Qualified local company for deep drilling and SS stem production INFN machining for all the other parts Qualified local company for Ni and Cu plating Single brazing in vacuum furnace of both prototypes (ok) CMM qualification of all steps Successful PMQ positioning with remachining of reference plans Successful vacuum tests after ebeam welding Succesfull PMQ magnetic measurement after welding Second BPM prototype under construction The production of DTs for tanks 4 an 1 will be done internally (same procedure as prototypes) Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy)

DTL commissioning plan proposed Phase scan of Tank1 looking to BPM1 and BPM2 inside Tank1 (reference phase is 0 deg) Tank Phase Field Emittance Transmission T1 D-plate BCM T1, D-Plate T2 BPM T3 - BCM T3 T3 BPM T4 BCM T4in T4 BCM T4out, D-Plate T5   BCM T5, D-Plate Once Tank1 has been commissioned and the D-plate has been replaced by Tank2, DTL commissioning will proceed, using in-line diagnostics up to the end of Tank4. The RF set point in amplitude and phase will be determined by phase scan method for Tank2 and Tank3, looking to the BPM located in the next tank turned off. Simulations show that transmission out of Tank3 is better than 99.9% for the entire phase and amplitude scan of Tank2, which makes acceptance scan technique difficult to implement for second and third DTL beam commissioning phases. RF set point of Tank4 and Tank5 requires external BPMs. In order to have a counter calibration of the BCMs after each Tank, the diagnostic plate should be equipped with a Faraday Cup with proper power range for 90 MeV beam commissioning. Phase scan of Tank1 looking the induced phase shift between two external BPMs, located 1.06 m apart each other (around 6 bl). LINAC16: MOPLR059 Commissioning Plans for the ESS DTL. M. Comunian, L. Computer control system EPICS and slow PLC controls (vacuum/interlocks) HMI ( human machine interface) Documentation Maintenance during maximun of 2 years after delivery in Lund LNL may contribute to part of EPICS ICS with responsibility of open WPs 2-3 Feb ICS meeting at LNL Cabling racks to be decided after definition of responsibilities Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy)
