Choice Project Design Class

What is a choice project? A choice project is a final, culminating project that is student-driven; that means YOU get to decide what you would like to do, what medium to use, how it should look, etc. What is a choice project? The only requirement is that your project be a diptych or series; that is, be comprised of two or more pieces.

Examples of Diptychs or Series in Art

Project Ideas You can choose to do anything you would like for this project; these are merely ideas in case you are stuck

Postage Stamp Designer Art History Postage Stamp Designer Research a famous artist. Then, create giant postage stamps commemorating the artist using any medium.

Art Movement Info Sheet Art History Art Movement Info Sheet Research an art history movement, and then create a guide sheet that tells the reader about the important characteristics of the movement.

Famous Artwork Parody Art History Choose a famous work of art. Then, alter the picture in a humorous or different manner.

Ballpoint Pen Challenge Drawing Ballpoint Pen Challenge Create a massive Zentangle that uses ALL of the ink from one ballpoint pen.

Keyhole Drawing Drawing Imagine you come upon a locked door with a keyhole. Draw what you would see if you peered through the keyhole.

Non-Objective Name Drawing Draw your name on a piece of paper. Cut the paper into squares and rearrange your name until it no longer looks like letters.

Dream Perspective Drawing Using linear perspective, draw your dream house, cityscape, landscape, or building.

Mixed Media Grid Drawing/ Mixed Media Draw an image on your paper. Divide the image into different sections. Use a different technique/ media to add color or shading in each section.

Embellished Animal Painting Using watercolor or acrylic paint, create a painting of an animal, and embellish it with designs.

Other Ideas You could create anything out of mixed media collage, scratch art, canvas board, etc.

Use of Elements and Principles Is your project balanced? Does it fill the space? Does it have color or value? Create movement? Feel unified? Craftsmanship Is your project neat and complete? Does it show use of art techniques and control of media? Effort Does your project look like it took considerable time to complete? Did you use your class time wisely? Your Only Project Requirements:

For this Project, You Need to: Fill out a Planning Sheet Create at least One Sketch In your sketchbook Can be small (1/4 of a page) or full-size Select your Materials & Create Anything on the bookcases is available to you You are welcome to search for your own materials as well (rocks, sticks, thicker canvas, collage materials, anything else) Write an Artist’s Statement Write a paragraph about your inspiration, choices of materials and subject matter, and how you feel your project went For this Project, You Need to:
