Thomas Jefferson High School Class of 2017 SENIORS!

Looks like we made it…well, almost! Becoming a senior means you are ¾ of the way to a high school diploma You still have work to do… Maintain a schedule including rigorous courses Keep up your grades! Stay involved in activities APPLY EARLY to colleges TJ’s deadline is Nov. 28th

Naviance is keeping you connected! We will be sending all application materials electronically via Naviance You will be: Completing surveys Signing up for College Visits Searching for colleges (check admission requirements before applying) Searching for scholarships Requesting teacher letters of recommendation Matching to your common application (if applicable)

Naviance is keeping you connected! All supporting documents will also be available on the Naviance Homescreen (click the link) SAT & ACT test dates Senior Calendar and list important dates Graduation information College tips Financial Aid tips Scholarship resources Letter of Recommendation request forms

College application Process After completing an application, see Ms. Maez for your college application checklist!! Students will be responsible for logging into Naviance and adding colleges to your list After adding a college, you need to make a transcript request so we can send them off Do not wait until the last possible day to send out your application, the earlier the better!!

How do I log on to Naviance? Go To: https://connection.naviance.com/thomjeff Or go to www.tjhs.dpsk12.org then click on “Naviance” under the Parents & Students tab To Login: It will ask for an email address, instead put your DPS ID in as the email address and the password is your six-digit date of birth (mm-dd-yy) If you get locked out, please see your counselor and they can reset your password

First steps in naviance… adding colleges Click on the “colleges” tab Under “my colleges” click on “colleges I’m applying to” Click “add college to this list” Check “Trascript Request” box Look up the college and add Check “I have submitted my application” box Click “add colleges” link at the bottom

First steps… requesting teacher letters Click on the “colleges” tab Under “my colleges” click on the “letters of recommendation” link Click the “Add Request” button Select the teachers name in the dropdown Choose if you want the letter sent to all colleges or a specific college (use “all colleges” as default) Write the teacher a quick informational note or thank you Click the “Submit Request” button Note: All teachers should have been asked in person and given the form before you send this request

Common Application - FYI Using the Common Application involves many extra steps. Give your counselors AT LEAST ONE WEEK ahead of time to ensure your application gets sent on time. Common Application requires additional teacher recommendation forms. Make sure to remind your teachers. Before counselors can send ANY of your documents to colleges, you must match your Common Application account in Naviance. You will need to complete this application if you are applying to University of Colorado, Boulder!

Why should I apply so early? You beat the rush by applying before the deadline. Applying early means you potentially have more options. It also means you have more time to work on financial aid & scholarships. You can apply for FAFSA starting Oct 1st this year

Things to remember… College Fairs In-state College Fair @ TJ (earlier today) Out-of-State College Fairs @ Lakewood HS – September 29th @ Mountain Vista HS – October 1st * Attend the fairs so you can meet representatives and obtain information on admission requirements * For a complete list of college fairs and times see the handout in your folder

Things to remember… Financial Aid 2016 FAFSA Workshops October 11th from 3-7pm Or by appointment with the College Advisor 720.423.7134 Future Center Register for the College Opportunity Fund (COF) @ www.collegeincolorado.org or https://cof.college-assist.org/COFApp
