Class Dojo Class DoJo is you along with our classroom behavior management system. Each student earns points through out the day for attendance, participation, behavior, attire, etc. At the end of each week the students will be placed in a point club. Each point club will be rewarded a prize based on the set point for that club We ask that each parent download the class dojo app. We also use it as a way to share the great things we are doing in class as well as parent communication tool.

Newsletter Parent newsletter will be sent home weekly It will include skills that will be covered in each subject area for the week, homework, and any tests, activities, or upcoming events

Homework Each student will have a green folder for homework. The folder will go home daily. Homework should be completed and returned the next day in the green folder. Please encourage your child to read for at least fifteen minutes a night, and take the time to listen to them read. Ask them questions as they read and after they read to make sure they comprehend

Teacher Parent Communicators A behavior log will be sent home weekly by your child’s teacher. Please initial the behavior log each day. The calendar will also include a key and/or comment section, you will be able to use the key to determine exactly what they did and discuss a way to correct their behavior Good behavior will be rewarded and any negative behavior will receive an appropriate act of discipline. We do not expect your child to be perfect but we do expect order in our classroom. A conference or phone call will be requested if needed!

COMMON FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS (CFAs) 1. What are CFAs? Quarterly tests that test standards that are covered during the quarter and/or semester 2. How often are CFAs administered? 2-3 per quarter. EQT will be given at the end of each quarter 3. Who will take CFAs? 2nd grade students take quarterly tests in Reading and Math . 4. How are CFAs administered? * Teachers administer the tests during scheduled test periods * Students have one week to make up a missed test.

Accelerated Reader Program Accelerated Reader or AR is a computer program where students are assisted with choosing books that are at an appropriate reading level yet still challenging and of interest to them. When the book is finished, the student takes a short quiz on the computer. Passage of the quiz indicates the student comprehends what he or she read; failure may indicate the student should be reading books that are on a different level or more appropriate. Based on the quiz results, the teacher helps the student set goals and directs ongoing reading practice. Students can also take AR quizzes at home.

BYOD Policy Devices must be charged at home and return home each day Students must remain on task or they will not have BYOD privileges. If students are not on an assigned or teacher approved app or website they will not have BYOD privileges for one week. Repeated offenses will result in the student not being able to bring a device to school for the remainder of the year. *Remember all usernames and passwords are private.

Math Facts We will do Math Facts Monthly. This encourages students to learn their basic math facts for addition and subtraction. Students will earn credits for passing basic fact quizzes and tests that count toward a prize in a grade level competition.

Projects Please do not email/call teachers the night before a project is due with questions/concerns. All projects are given with ample time for completion. If you have any need for clarification, notify your child’s teacher the day the assignment was given.
