Title I Meet the teacher night Parent Information Input Meeting August 23, 2017 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Room 168

What is kindergarten? Kindergarten is a grade that gives your child the foundation needed to be successful in their educational career. Kindergarten at Terrance Manor Elementary has high expectations for Their students.

Syllabus Your child will learn and develop certain skills.

Gross Motor Development Able to dress and clean him/herself Manage zippers, shoelaces, buttons, and snaps Hop, skip, jump, tumble, throw, catch, bounce a ball, etc Fine Motor Development Color within the lines Draw shapes Hold a pencil and crayons Print letters and numbers as well as own name Cuts with scissors on a line Basic skills: -name simple shapes -identify opposites -understand positional concepts -name days of the week and months of the year --communicate effectively by asking and responding to questions and statements

Writing Skills Dictates a sentence about a picture Write first and last name Language Arts Skills Follow multi-step directions Recites and writes the alphabet in capital and lowercase letters Matches capital and lowercase letters Recognize vocabulary words Fine arts skills communicate using music, dance, drama, and visual arts as self expression

Science Skills Investigate to solve problems Acquiring knowledge of the process skills Acquiring knowledge of life, earth, and physical science Social Studies Skills Acquiring knowledge of American holidays and symbols Acquiring knowledge of their community and world Demonstrates good citizenship characteristics

Read, read, read Sights Words Reading High frequency words are words that a student memorize, so the student can learn how to read Read with your child every day for 10- 15 minutes

Behavior Behavior is addressed daily with the daily behavior sheet. Refer to the tiger rules inside the Code of Conduct book.

Classroom rules Parents!!! Please sign the behavior sheet daily! Keep quiet in the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, etc Remain in your seat unless given permission Raise your head before speaking Keep your hands and feet to yourself Follow directions and instructions Classroom rules

Records Please update your child’s records. Provide the following to your child’s teacher: Copy of the birth certificate Social security card Updated copy of shot records Ear, Eye and Dental Certificate of immunization Proof of residency

Supplies Some supplies parents provide are considered community supplies: Crayons Dry erase markers Paper towels Disinfectant wipes Baby wipes Pencils Glue sticks Ziploc bags (pint and gallon) Paper (construction and loose) Some supplies are considered individual supplies: Folders Binders Headphones Composition notebooks(wide ruled) Scissors
