AURORA PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION The Division of Human Resources would like to welcome you to Aurora Public Schools. Throughout this presentation, you will find information on Human Resources Policies and Regulations and new employee information. We thank you for joining the APS team and look forward to a successful school year. Revised June 10, 2016

Unified Job Descriptions My job is to accelerate learning for every APS student every day. I do my job by… My community needs me to do my job. One of the first priorities has been to encourage staff members to think about their jobs and how each one relates to the goal of student achievement. Be it principals, teachers or bus drivers, everyone in APS has the same job. To cement that idea, Superintendent Rico Munn asked all staff members and the APS Board of Education to create a three-sentence job description. The description begins with a universal responsibility. Next, explain how you specifically accomplish this based on your role in APS.

“Every Student shapes a successful future.” APS Vision “Every Student shapes a successful future.”

APS Mission “In partnership with our community, we accelerate learning for all students to develop the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to shape successful futures.”

HISTORY SIZE DIVERSITY Who Are We? APS was started as a one-room school house in 1865 and now consists of 61 schools. SIZE APS is the fifth largest district in Colorado. We have approximately 40,000 students and over 6,000 employees. DIVERSITY Our students come from more than 131 countries and speak more than 133 languages. 36% of our students speak English as a second language. Approximately 20 of our schools receive Title I funding.

Want to Know More About APS? There’s an App for that! The APS Mobile App works on smartphones and tablets and provides district and school contact information, top news stories, cafeteria menus, upcoming events, access to the APS Parent Portal and much more. It also includes staff tools, such as access to email, absence reporting and Infinite Campus. iPad users, please download the iPhone app at the iTunes store. Android tablet users, please download the app at the Google Play store

New Employee Checklist Human Resources has developed a new employee checklist for all new staff members. The checklist provides links and resources for new hires that we believe will help guide them through their first year in Aurora Public Schools. New employees will receive the checklist from Human Resources as part of the new hire process. The checklist can be found on the HR website under Resources and on the HR Forms page. You may also find the checklist at: http://www.aps.k12.co.us/hr/NewEmployeeChecklist.pdf
