The SCPCSD The legislature created the SCPCSD in 2007 with a mission of being an authorizer of new public charter schools and an authorizer for public charter schools. 2008 – 2009: 5 schools (2,500 students) 2009 – 2010: 7 schools 2010 – 2011: 11 schools 2011 – 2012: 13 schools 2012 – 2013: 18 schools (11,500 students) 2013 – 2014: 24 schools (13,000 students) Projected to be the 17th largest district in SC

Things to remember about Charter Schools Each school has their own governing board Each school handles their own personnel Each schools handles their own curriculum (as described by there charter) Each school handles their own employee, parent, and student grievances (as described by there charter and their bylaws) Each school is bound to their charter (that’s what the district holds the school accountable to) Because of the above, the district and our superintendent is not an appellate district Grievances are handled at the school/school board level With the exception of Federal Programs: 504 grievances Title IX grievances IDEA-related grievances
