Castillo de San Marcos Territory (FL) founded by Ponce de Leon St. Augustine was founded by Pedro Aviles in 1565. First forts (9) were wooden, 107 years after founding of city. After attacks by Drake and other pirates a stone fort was created with four bastions. 1672-1695 Conquina- absorbed impact of cannonballs
