The Workings of the Government U.S. Constitution Texas Constitution Federal Government- where a group of states agree to give up some of its power to the Central Government. The Federal Government is Supreme Law. 50 States United. State Government- Power rest particularly in the state. With some leeway. Power does not Conflict with Federal Government. 254 Counties.

Duty of Texas Citizens To serve on a Jury To pay federal, local and property taxes. To follow all Federal and State laws.

Checks and Balances Each branch of Government is checked by the other. (Executive)= (Judicial)- The President appoints Federal Judges. (Judicial)= (Executive)- Judges can declare President’s actions Unconstitutional. (Legislative)= (Executive)- Congress can Impeach the President. (Executive)= (Legislative)- President can Veto any bill by Congress. (Judicial)= (Legislative)- Supreme Court can overrule Congress if the law is Unconstitutional. (Legislative)= (Judicial)- Congress has to approve the Federal Judges appointed by the President.
