2016-2017: A SEASON OF CELEBRATION

The orchestra returns to its home in the newly renovated Johnson Fine Arts Center for its 97th season of music making. Joining the orchestra will be a spectacular array of guest artists plus the NSU Concert Choir.

The 50-member AUCS, under the direction of Robert Vodnoy, has student, faculty, and community members.

The orchestra rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 in the JFAC.

The orchestra sponsors an annual concerto-aria competition The orchestra sponsors an annual concerto-aria competition. Students from NSU are eligible to compete, and the winners perform with the orchestra.

Fall Concert The November program includes: Beethoven’s Consecration of the House Overture to celebrate the renovation. The Butterfly Lovers Concerto, the greatest piece of 20th century Chinese music. Brahms’ Song of Fate, performed with the NSU Concert Choir and a community chorus, prepared by Dr. Timothy Woods

Internationally acclaimed violinist Lee-Chin Siow will perform The Butterfly Lovers Concerto with the orchestra on November 12, 2016.

Among many awards, Lee-Chin won the Gold Medal at the Henryk Szeryng International Violin Competition in1994. She is a distinguished author and pedagogue.

Winter Concert The February program includes: Winners of the 2016 Concerto/Aria Competition Robert Schumann’s glorious Symphony No. 4, a romantic masterpiece. The symphony features the beautiful “Clara” theme, with which the composer professed his love for his wife Clara, one of the greatest pianists of the 19th century.

Spring Concert The Final Concert of the season features Kenneth Boulton, the Dean of the School of Fine Arts, clarinet assistant professor Audrey Miller and the NSU Concert Choir for a truly grand finale!
