Youth Presence Different if every place. Possible in every place.

Why “YOUTH PRESENCE” Presence means the presence of Christ in young people’s lives. Where you go says a lot about who you are. Youth presence is more than a group, programs or activities for young people. Presence is how a young person experiences Christ when he or she encounters you or your congregation. This approach is about how young people can transform your congregation by their presence.

THE LEADERSHIP OF PRESENCE Introduction Attention Teens: What you say, think, feel matters! Your presence makes a difference Fully present and engaged Creating positive presence that is contagious Open and present to others Powerfully present with others Open to the presence of Christ Fully present with your gifts and the gifts of others Youth presence that changes your congregation

Module Three “Connect” The Sacred Circle Definition of Community Power and Decisions Feelings and Concerns Reflection on our life together Communicate with authenticity Deal with difficult issues Welcome and affirm diversity Bridge differences with integrity Relate with compassion and respect

Guidelines for talking with one another Use “I” statements. Speak personally about your experiences and be specific rather than general. Listen to your inner voice. Become aware of when you are moved to speak and when you are not moved to speak. Listen carefully and with respect to what another person is telling you. Do not formulate your response while someone is speaking but wait until the other has completely finished. Be aware of your own barriers, such as prejudices, expectations, ideologies and judgments. Be willing to share your own woundedness. This way you invite others to be vulnerable with you. The ability to share brokenness as well as joys and successes is important. Speak the truth in love for the purpose of building up the body in love.
