You have achieved excellence in: Applying meaning Using quotes Feedback Lesson – Poetry Analysis – single & comparison L/O: to explore areas of strength and to improve You have achieved excellence in: Applying meaning Using quotes Exploring some techniques Using zoom in on words, triplets to explore multiple meaning Digging under the surface and exploring explicit and implicit meanings Using some reference to context

The ‘Not yet’ Context not detailed enough or embedded enough Terminology references needed more Word class references to terminology needed Focus on expression for some required More quotes to be embedded Connectives to compare to be used more for some More terminology links in comparison

Context not detailed enough or embedded enough http://resource.download.wjec.co.uk.s3.amazonaws.com/vtc/2014-15/wjec_08/biographies/william-wordsworth.html http://resource.download.wjec.co.uk.s3.amazonaws.com/vtc/2014-15/wjec_08/timeline/index.html Use the quote learning guide to help you learn more context (tips transferable)/information on the Weebly: http://churchillacademyenglish.weebly.com/lit-1b-anthology.html

1 - Terminology references needed more 2 - Word class references to terminology needed 3 - More terminology links in comparison Go back through your essay and for every quote you have identified using a green pen identify some language or structure terminology you could have used. Every time you say quote/word/phrase – change this to word class – verb/noun/adjective/adverb Can you embed connotations within the essay where you have explored more than one meaning of a word or quote?

Focus on expression for some required Every time I have written EXP next to a line can you work out why and then re-write the sentence/phrase that makes it clumsy If you have used an ‘empty phrase’ develop it by explaining what specific effect you are trying to say If you haven’t explored meaning of the quote can you do this now?

More quotes to be embedded – single Look through your single poem essay first - identify how many quotes you have used and write the number down. Do you only have 3 references to the poem or less? If so answer this question. How can I show a wide understanding of a poem? Then, analyse 2 – 3 more quotes in a separate paragraph – remember, terminology, links to quotes, zoom in and alternative meanings and context embedded within this analysis

More quotes to be embedded – comparison Look through your comparison poem essay first - identify how many quotes you have used for both poems – Is there an imbalance favouring one poem? If yes, add more quotes to highlight the points of comparison you make (do this for the poem with less quote references)

Connectives to compare to be used more If this is a target for you. Go back through your essay and use the connectives sheet from the independent learning area to add to your essay where you identify that this is a target/missing

Now that you have done this DIRT work (directed improvements related to task) Please transfer your targets and strengths into the progress tracker at the back of your pink booklet
