Impressionism 19th-century art movement characterized by relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles. Impressionism originated with a group of Paris-based artists whose independent exhibitions brought them to prominence during the 1870s and 1880s.

Claude Monet Branch of Orange Bearing Fruit, 1884 Still Life With Apples And Grapes, 1879

Berthe Morisot Chrysanthemums, 1885 The Blue Vase, 1888

Mary cassatt Simone in a White Bonnet, 1901, Pastel The Banjo Lesson, 1894 Simone in a White Bonnet, 1901, Pastel

Post impressionism Paul Cezanne, Pyramid of Skulls, 1901 is a predominantly French art movement that developed roughly between 1886 and 1905, from the last Impressionist exhibition to the birth of Fauvism. Post-Impressionism emerged as a reaction against Impressionists' concern for the naturalistic depiction of light and colour.  extended Impressionism while rejecting its limitations: they continued using vivid colours, often thick application of paint, and real-life subject matter, but were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms, distort form for expressive effect, and use unnatural or arbitrary colour. Paul Cezanne, Pyramid of Skulls, 1901

Still life with two sunflowers, van Gogh, 1887

Still life with pears, van Gogh, 1888
