Talking with God Pastor Jon Fulton September 10, 2017 Series: Face Time

9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)

1. Prayer is telling God you adore him (v.9)

...your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10 (NIV)

2. Prayer is telling God you will be obedient to him (v.10)

My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Matthew 26:39 (NLT)

Give us today our daily bread. Matthew 6:11 (NIV)

3. Prayer is telling God about the things you need (V.11)

Ask for your needs to be met with confidence

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)

Ask for your needs to be met with others in mind

… pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16 (NLT)

Ask for your needs to be met while being content

Give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name. Proverbs 30:8-9 (NLT)

Ask for your needs to be met continually

I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9 (NLT)

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. Matthew 6:12 (NIV)

4. Prayer is telling God that you are sorry for your sins (V.12)

If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9 (NLT)

Colossians 3:12-13 (NLT) Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:12-13 (NLT)

If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. Matthew 5:13 (NIV)

5. Prayer is telling God that you need daily assistance in life (V.13)
