CREATING AND EXPERIENCING A CULTURE OF PRAYER

Luke 11:1-4 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say: “ ‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’ ”

Culture is the way of life, the general customs and beliefs of a particular group.

Culture is the way of life, the general customs and beliefs of a particular group.  Prayer is being with God.

1. Set a time   (Acts 3:1) One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.

2. Select a place (Acts 16:13) On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.

3. Involve your physical body (Hebrews 5:7) During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

4. Connect with others (Acts 2:42 and Acts 4:24) They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. . . . When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.

5. Expect a response (Phil. 4:4-7) Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
