Together we can soar to new heights Advent How can we prepare? Friday 27th November 2015 Live Love Learn Together we can soar to new heights

What does Advent mean? Advent means ‘the coming of something.’ Advent is the time where we prepare for the coming of Jesus and wait for his arrival. There are many different ways we can prepare. One way is to listen to the Bible.

Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Be on your guard, stay awake, because you never know when the time will come. It is like a man travelling abroad: he has gone from home, and left his servants in charge, each with his own task; and he has told the doorkeeper to stay awake. So stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming, evening, midnight, dawn; if he comes unexpectedly, he must not find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake!’ This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. H O P E

How does the Advent wreath help us prepare How does the Advent wreath help us prepare? The Advent wreath helps us prepare our hearts. The Advent wreath is a German tradition. It is used to celebrate the coming of Christ – the light of the World.

The circle represents God’s unending love, just as a circle has no end and no beginning. The evergreen leaves represent God’s everlasting love, which never dies.

There are four candles on the Advent wreath, to remind us that Jesus comes to spread the light of love to the four corners of the world. Each candle signifies one week of Advent. This helps the countdown to Christmas. The candles represent Jesus - the Light of the World.

We will light the first candle on our Advent wreath, the candle of hope. We will sing this song as we look at the flame of the candle. H O P E

A candle is burning, a flame warm and bright, A candle of HOPE in December's dark night. While angels sing blessings from heaven's starry sky, Our hearts we prepare now for Jesus is nigh

Come, Lord Jesus. Come and visit your people Come, Lord Jesus!  Come and visit your people. Help us show hope this week.
