Revelation 3:1-6 1. What word of commendation does Jesus give the church in Sardis?  They appeared strong and had some measure of faith Some had not defiled their “garments” 2. What word of criticism does Jesus give the church in Sardis? They were dead Their works were not complete

3. What element in the description of Jesus (1:12-16) does Jesus refer to in this letter? How does this fit into the content of the letter to Sardis? What impact does it have on our church?  He has the 7 fold spirit & He holds the 7 stars in his hand Their messenger needed the help of the Holy Spirit The Lord holds us in His hand as well 4. Just as each letter looks back to one or two elements of Jesus’ glory, so each letter looks ahead to blessings Jesus will give his faithful. Which blessings are promised to the faithful in this letter? What does this mean for us?  Clothed in white garments He will confess our name before the Father and his angels  The Lord will do the same for us

What impact does it have on our church?  The Key of David = the key to the blessings of the Kingdom of God. They had all God wanted them to have as do we 4. Just as each letter looks back to one or two elements of Jesus’ glory, so each letter looks ahead to blessings Jesus will give his faithful. Which blessings are promised to the faithful in this letter? What does this mean for us? He will make them a pillar of the temple He will receive a new name Be part of the New Jerusalem

What word of criticism does Jesus give the church members in Laodicea?  They were lukewarm in their faith = indifferent They were poor, blind, and naked They seemed to be between faith and unbelief = in danger of losing their faith

What is Jesus’ attitude toward those who are like the members of the Laodicean church?  He wanted to spit them out of his mouth – it would be easier to deal with them  Yet he knocks and wants them to let him in Remember - God supplies the strength to “open the door” – Ephesians 2:1 4. What element in the description of Jesus (1:12-16) does Jesus refer to in this letter? How does this fit into the content of the letter to Laodicea? What impact does it have on our church?  He is the faithful and true witness and ruler of God’s creation  they were unfaithful and materialistic and God could take it all away 5. Just as each letter looks back to one or two elements of Jesus’ glory, so each letter looks ahead to blessings Jesus will give his faithful. Which blessings are promised to the faithful in this letter? What does this mean for us? He gives the right to rule with him We too are more than conquerors
