Lesson 3: Comparing and Rounding Decimals p. 89-92 Basic Math Skills Lesson 3: Comparing and Rounding Decimals p. 89-92

Comparing and Rounding Decimals You can tell which two decimals is larger if you ass zeros to one of them. You can easily compare them when both have the same number of decimal places to the right of the decimal point.

Comparing Example Example: Compare 19.368 and 19.37 19.370 is larger 19.368 < 19.37 Another Example: Compare 6.205 and 6.25 6.25 is larger 6.205 < 6.25

Rounding Example Round 2.346 to hundredths Step 1: Find the place that you are rounding to. 2.346 (hundredths) Step 2: If the digit to the right is 5 or more, then add 1 to the place that you are rounding to. If it is less than 5, then do not add anything. 2.346 (five or more: add one) Step 3: Drop all of the digits to the right of the plate that you are rounding to. 2.35_ (digit dropped). Therefore. 2.346 = 2.35
