Type of degree? Special certifications? Common degrees are a Bachelor’s degree in Social work but you can also have a Bachelor’s degree in any related fields such as psychology or sociology as well. Usually It is recommended to be certified in Social Work because of all the skills and training that is taught to the students that are entering this field. You can also pursue a higher degree in social work such as your Master’s giving you higher qualifications and skills to contribute working in this field. A license may also be required for non clinical social workers depending in what states they may be working in. In order to become a licensed social worker you have to complete two years of supervised clinicals after graduating as well as earning a Master's degree in social work.

How easy will it be to get a job, is it in demand? It is shown that child and family social worker employment will increase 6 percent from now till 2024, because of its high demand with so many children enrolling in schools and to help strengthen so many abusive families and help with parenting skills. But this job may also be limited because of the budget constraints in the federal, local and state budget cuts.

Starting pay and average pay The average pay for a social work is $45,900 and can start with a starting salary of $37,470 and earn by seniority. The best in the field can earn up to $75,510 and the lowest pay can range to $27,500. Schools are one of the best paying institutions for a social worker. Top End social Worker earning= $44.24 hourly $92,010 yearly Senior social workers= $37.47 hourly $77,930 yearly Experienced social worker= $30.94 hourly $64,360 yearly Junior social worker= $24.11 hourly $50,150 yearly Starting social worker= $18.01 hourly $37,470 yearly

Working Conditions Social workers that focus on the well-being of children have a work setting that is varied: Social workers can have an office in a public elementary school or secondary school and/or adoption agency Their career requires them to go out into the community to meet with children , guardians, and parents either at home or school They work full time ( standard 40 hours/ week) Evenings weekends

Personal Opinion We chose this career because we thought it was an intersting career to reasearch since it is highly impacted on our school campus as well as other universities, and we wanted to go more into depth as to what makes it so interesting to pursue as a career. Also, we constantly hear about social workers but we dont necessarily know what exactly they do in their career. This career is important because it helps so many families and individuals that are in need of improving their well being or families. It also helps individiuals that may be in danger within their own homes and being safely removed to a better environment.

Would you pursue this career? Sofia: I would not pursue this career mainly because I am not good at helping people out especially when it comes to children and because of the environment. I wouldn't want be in an office and I think the emotional toll is something I wouldn't be able to handle. Nataly: I wouldn’t pursue this career because I personally don’t see my personality fitting with this career. A very important trait in this career is compassion over other which I personally lack. I would also act out of instinct if I saw a child in danger instead of waiting to legally process everything. The work schedule that social workers have is very demanding and you have to be available at all hours of the day because of situations that may happen.
