COPD admissions accounted for 1,044,629 bed days in 2012

Background COPD is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the UK In 2012 COPD admissions accounted for over 1 million bed days in the UK (BLF 2016) People with COPD are limited by breathlessness but also experience lower levels of mental well-being when compared to age-matched populations. Pulmonary rehabilitation is proven to increase exercise capacity and health status but uptake is limited (BTS 2013)

Making Waves whilst creating partnership Health Foundation Funding ~£500K : spreading improvement programme Externally - Working with partners in Coventry, Dudley, Northamptonshire, Nottingham North East, South Birmingham, South Lincolnshire and Wolverhampton. Internally - Working inter-faculty (School of Health, School of Life Sciences, School of Psychological, Social & Behavioural Sciences, Centre for Technology Enabled Health Research and Professional Services) and cross-faculty with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
