Mrs. Amazeen’s Classroom Newsletter September 19, 2016 Classroom News Our “Alpha-what” project based learning activities have taken off and been a lot of fun this past week. Thank you to all those that have sent in items for our “letter of the day”  Please continue to send in items for this weeks letters, E-I. This week’s theme is Nursery Rhymes, we will be reading different nursery rhymes & working on sequencing & retelling story events. We will also create a nursery rhyme journal. In math we will begin learning about sorting & classifying objects according to their attributes and will be practicing our sorting during our math stations. Book Buddies We are buddying up with some 4th grade readers. They will be coming to our classroom every other Friday to read with us  Dates to Remember Monday 9/19 Monday “Shark” folders sent home Tuesday 9/20 Monday “Shark” folders return to school Wednesday 9/21 Library books are due Friday 9/23 Spirit Day! Wear your MSE school gear or black & red Magazines: If you have any magazines around the house that you would be willing to donate we will be needing them for an activity this week. Craft Items Needed Enrichment Scholastic Book Order Reminders In the coming weeks we will be spending time decorating the letters that each student was assigned as part of our “Alpha-What” project. If you have any craft items that you would be willing to donate to our classroom we would greatly appreciate it. Items might include pom-poms, glitter, pasta, stickers, etc. Enrichment Each month we will be sending home an enrichment calendar with optional activities for your child to complete at home. If your child does complete some or all of the activities please send them to school in your child’s folder. We will be looking over their work & they can earn a small reward. . A Peek at the Week ABC’s Reading: 1:1 voice/print touch reading Sequencing story events Retelling Identifying sight words in text Identifying rhyming words Writing: Stretching word sounds to help us write Matching illustration to texts Math: Sorting Number identification Science Making predictions Sink or Float Experiment Scholastic Book Order We will begin sending home Scholastic book orders at the beginning of October, however our class is set up to order online now. If you are interested in purchasing books for your child through scholastics you may visit: https://clubs.scholastic.com/. Our class code is Q6WQQ. The due date for this month is September 30th. Scholastics Book Club offers a variety of books at a reasonable cost and with each purchase our class is given a free book for our classroom library. Please see the attached notes explaining the scholastic book club in more detail. Wash your Hands There are “start of school” colds going around. Please talk with your child about washing their hands & covering (with their elbow) when they cough or sneeze. Reminders Monday Folders are sent home each Monday and should return to school on Tuesday. Please return your child’s red/blue folder daily along with their behavior calendar If your child is out due to an illness or if you know your child will be absent from school, please call the front office and let them know.
