Getting to Know The men and women Of the Bible

The Bible is filled with characters, literally and figuratively. Perhaps the best way to describe how the Bible portrays its characters is "human" because they are, in fact, human. The Bible is true and the people that inhabit its pages were real people with real problems, just like us. The Bible does not shy away from presenting both the strengths and weaknesses of those it portrays. This makes the characters in the Bible "practical" in the sense that we can relate to them and educational in the sense that we can learn from their successes and failures.

Romans 15:4 (NKJV) 4  For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

1 Corinthians 10:11 (NKJV) 11  Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

James 5:17... 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

Adam

Adam What comes to you mind when you hear the “name Adam” Sin Eve Fruit Abel Cain Animals Names Naked Hide Seth Follower Promise What comes to you mind when you hear the “name Adam” Only one word about Adam.

Adam was the first man to ever exist (Genesis 1:27; 1 Corinthians 15:5). He was created by God as the first human being and placed in the Garden of Eden designed just for him (Genesis 2:8, 10). Adam is the father of all mankind; every human being who has ever existed is a direct descendant of Adam, and it is through Adam that sin came into the world (Romans 5:12). Adam Romans 5:12 (NKJV) 12  Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned--

The Man God Made ADAM [Ăd'ăm]–of the ground or taken out of the red earth. The first human son of God (Luke 3:38), and God’s masterpiece and crowning work of creation. Luke 3:38 38  the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

The Man God Made ADAM No Physical father, no physical mother. A married man. A father of:  Cain.  Abel.  Seth. He was 130 years old  Many sons and daughter's Gen 5:3-4  He lived 930 years Gen 5:5

13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. The Man God Made Genesis 2:16-17 (NKJV) 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." ADAM WAS THE FIRST… First human being - Gen. 2:7; 1 Tim. 2:13 First place over God's creation - Gen. 1:28 First to have fellowship with God - Gen. 2:15 First laborer - Gen. 2:15; 3:17-19 First marriage - Gen. 2:18-24; Matt. 19:4-6 First to have moral choice - Gen. 2:16-17 First to sin * - Gen. 3:1-7; Rom. 5:12 Genesis 1:28 (NKJV) 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 2:15 (NKJV) 15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 1 Timothy 2:13 (NKJV) 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. Genesis 2:7 (NKJV) 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

The Man God Made ADAM, SIN AND DEATH Genesis 2:16-17; 3:1-19 · Sin's source: Temptation - 1 Tim. 2:14 · Sin's form: Unbelief and disobedience - 1 Jno. 3:4 · Sin's effect: Death, shame and guilt - Gen. 2:17; 3:8-10 · Sin's entrance into the world - Romans 5:12 · Redemption - Genesis 3:15 Genesis 3:15 (NKJV) 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel." Genesis 2:17 (NKJV) 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." Romans 5:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned-- 1 John 3:4 (NKJV) 4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 1 Timothy 2:14 (NKJV) 14  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

Adam is a Figure of Christ. The Man God Made ADAM AND CHRIST - Rom. 5:14. Adam is a Figure of Christ.  The Spirit of Man: Adam & Christ Contrasted in Romans 5:14-19. Adam:  The door to sin and death - Rom. 5:12-15; Gen. 2:17. Christ:  The door to grace and salvation – Rom 5:15 Adam: The result of sin: Condemnation - Rom. 5:16.  Christ: The result of grace: Justification - Rom. 5:16. Adam: Dominance of sin & spiritual death - Rom. 5:17. Christ:  Dominance of grace & spiritual life - Rom. 5:17. Adam:  Disobedience contributed to man’s sin (& death) - 5:18-19. Christ:  Obedience means of man’s righteousness - Rom. 5:18-19.

Adam is a Figure of Christ. The Man God Made ADAM AND CHRIST - Rom. 5:14. Adam is a Figure of Christ.   C.  The Body of Man: Adam & Christ Contrasted in 1 Cor. 15. Adam: Source of life for the physical body - 15:45. Christ:  Source of bodily resurrection - 15:45. Adam: Physical death - 15:21-22; Gen. 3:17-19. Christ:  Bodily resurrection of the dead - 15:21-22. Adam:  Prototype of the body of flesh - 15:46-49. Christ:  Prototype of bodily resurrection - 15:46-49, 20; 1 Jno. 3:2.

Adam really lived according to God Many are denying the fact that Adam really lived… The reason for that… The big bang theory, Atheists. Universities, Colleges, Schools etc… Make fun!!! Jesus----Matthew 19:4-5… Paul -----Romans 5:14… Jude -----Jude 14… Romans 5:14 (NKJV) 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. Jude 1:14 (NKJV) 14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, Matthew 19:4-5 (NKJV) 4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?

Adam was a necessary complement to the divine plan. “There was not a man to till the ground” (Gen. 2:5). The accomplishment of God’s plan required human instrumentality. God made the earth for man, and then the man for the earth. The plan of redemption was from God, but it will be executed by man

Adam was fashioned a creature of God, bearing the image of God and possessing God-like faculties Gen. 1:27 Ps. 8:6 Eccles. 7:29 Psalm 8:6 (NKJV) 6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, Genesis 1:27 (NKJV) 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Ecclesiastes 7:29 (NKJV) 29 Truly, this only I have found: That God made man upright, But they have sought out many schemes."

Adam was created a tripartite being, having a spirit, soul and body Gen. 2:7 1 Thess. 5:23 1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Genesis 2:7 (NKJV) 7  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Adam was alone and needed companionship to satisfy his created instincts (Gen. 2:18), thus Eve was formed. Society, friendship and love Gifts divinely bestowed upon man. God put in us that part that is longing for companionship. We were made to be around people and not to be isolated in the sea or in a mountain…

Don’t follow Adam in: Believed a lie. -- “Shall not surely die.” 1. Eve was deceived - Adam complied. (1 Tim. 2:13,14). a. How often are we the one deceived? b. How often do we go along - no questioned asked? 2. Deceived by what lie offered. (Gen. 3:6). a. Satan offers “instant gratification” – Lord offers reward in “due season.” (Gal. 6:9) b. Satan offers three basic approaches. (1 John 2:15). 3. Belief of lie was fatal mistake. a. Some mistaken beliefs may not hurt too much. b. Some mistaken beliefs can destroy (2 The. 2:11-12).

Denied responsibility. Obeyed a lie. 1. People generally obey a lie because: a. Believe with all their hearts. b. Willing to take risk that it maybe so. c. Desire results so greatly do not care about consequences. 2. People need to obey what the evidence dictates -- not what want to believe. Denied responsibility. 1. Adam blamed Eve. (Gen. 3:12). 2. Eve blamed serpent. (Gen. 3:13).

· Our responsibility to God mirrors the privileges received from Him. LESSONS FOR US · God wants and expects us to make the right choices when tempted to sin. · Our responsibility to God mirrors the privileges received from Him. · Fellowship with God is precious: Do not take it for granted. · Marriage is special: Do not defile, discard or disrespect it. · We cannot hide from God. · Accept responsibility for our own sin, and repent of it. · Faithful living must follow a good beginning.

The choice is yours... In disobedience...? Or Are you like Adam... In disobedience...? Or In being obedient to God?... The choice is yours...

CLASS DISCUSSION What does it mean to say that Adam was a dual being? How was Adam "in the image of God"? (Gen. 1:26-27) Name as many blessings as you can with which God blessed Adam in Genesis 2:8-25. What was Adam's responsibility to each one? What is the wife's relationship to her husband? What traits of marriage are implied in Genesis 2:24? Was Adam deceived when he sinned? What were the consequences of Adam's sin? Why did Adam and his wife make coverings for themselves in Genesis 3:7? What was Adam forbidden to do after he sinned? Why? Who were the sons of Adam? How long did Adam live? What is a "type"? How is Adam typical of Christ?
