“What Is God Waiting For?”

What Is God Waiting For? God desires salvation for everyone (I Tim. 2:4) God is merciful and patient (Psa. 86:15) God has also promised to punish evil (Prov. 11:21) So you may be thinking, “What is he waiting for?”

What Is God Waiting For? Adam & Eve Punishment promised (Gen. 2:17; 3:17-19, 24) Some 900 years of life afterward (Gen. 5:3-5) God’s greater plan Time to initiate the plan of salvation (Gen. 3:15) Time to “call on the name of the Lord” (Gen. 4:26) Time to multiply (Gen. 5:3-4)

What Is God Waiting For? Flood victims Punishment for sin promised (Gen. 6:5-7) 120 years of patience (Gen. 6:3) God’s plan Time to build the ark (Gen. 6:13-7:1) Time to preach (II Peter 2:5) Time to repent (I Peter 3:20)

What Is God Waiting For? Natives of Canaan (Amorites) Punishment promised (Gen. 15:16-21; Lev. 18:24-25) 400 years until they would be driven out God’s preparation Time to build an army (Exo. 1:7; Num. 1:45) 600,000+ fighting men Time to build Israel’s faith (Exo. 14:13-14) Time to tear down the Canaanites’ courage (Josh. 2:8-11) Time to teach Israel its Law before entering Canaan

What Is God Waiting For? Nineveh, capital of Assyria Punishment promised (Jonah 3:4) Message came 40 days before destruction God’s plan Time to repent (Jonah 3:10; 4:11) Punishment promised again later (Nahum) Patient, but not lax (Nahum 1:2-3)

Israel & Judah Punishment promised for Israel Amos & Hosea (750 BC); Moses (1400 BC) Exiled by Assyria (722 BC) Punishment promised for Judah Isaiah & Micah (750-700 BC) Exiled by Babylon (586 BC) God’s plan Prepare Assyria & Babylon (Isa. 10:5; Hab. 1:6) Time to repent (II Chron. 36:15-16; Hos. 10:10)

What Is God Waiting For? Paul Example of God’s patience for us (I Tim. 1:16) God is waiting for us to come to him Fallen saints in Thyatira Warning for them, and us (Rev. 2:20-23)

What Is God Waiting For? Why is God waiting to punish evil? Maybe he’s waiting for more people to “get in the ark” (II Peter 3:9) God’s patience will end (Num. 14:18) Some will repent in time, some will not God’s patience is time to repent, not wait (Rom. 2:4-5)
