To do: Pick up “Who Makes Policy?” Read through it and the matrix on the back “People in Government Who Make and Influence Policy” For each of the examples, write out who you think made each of the policies. Pick up “Case Study-Pollution in Southeast Chicago” Read the case study in small groups Answer the questions on the page, be prepared to discuss Also Answer on the case study: Look at the “People in Government Who Make and Influence Policy” handout If we took out the word “Government” What (or who) could we replace it with? What individuals, groups or businesses might be interested in the problems of Southeast Chicago?

Homework: Do some research. Can you identify any groups, individuals, or businesses that have advocated for policies in Southeast Chicago? Closure: Go back to the policy that you identified from last Friday. Identify which levels or branches of government might be involved in your policy.
