SEMINAR 1. Title : Present and Future of Korean Manufacturing Industry 2. Speaker : Euijoon Yoon, Managing Director, Office of Strategic R&D Planning (OSP), Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), Korea 3. Time : 16:00~17:00 4. Place :: e+ Lecture Hall (room 83188), 2nd Research Building, Sungkyunkwan University 5. Summary : Korea has developed remarkably since its independence in 1945. Major industries such as steel, automobiles, semiconductors, displays, shipbuilding, etc., were building blocks of Korean economy. Korea has been successful in pursuing “fast follower” strategy to catch up advanced countries. However, due to the strong challenge from China, production of cost-effective products with improved manufacturing technology is no longer valid. In this presentation, I will address some issues related with competitiveness of Korean manufacturing industry, and share how we should move forward. 6 Background : Education PhD, Electronic Materials, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA (1990) MS.
