“An activity that creates learning opportunities.” Teaching “An activity that creates learning opportunities.”

“An activity that utilizes those opportunities.” Learning “An activity that utilizes those opportunities.”

Maximizing Learning Opportunities Teaching is a process of utilizing learning opportunities. Therefore, teachers are creators of opportunities and also the ones who utilize those opportunities. Ours is the first macrostrategy that we are going to be talking about…

How do we create effective learning opportunities?? Continuous modifications – feedback Syllabus?? Flexibility

Managers of Learning Teachers AND students If one student has a problem with the content of an lesson most likely he or she is not the only one!!

Creation and Utilization of Opportunities are: Not bound by teachers’ agenda Syllabus Lesson plans Not bound by teaching materials Textbooks Not bound by syllabus specifications

Inside the Classroom Learner involvement Teacher questioning Learners are in control of their learning. Learner investment Ex. “Just Listen” Teacher questioning Asking questions that will trigger meaningful interaction.

Outside the Classroom Learning communities Interaction with competent speakers of the target language. Develop a habit of keeping diaries or journals. Exchange information with teachers or peers. Adapt and create new teaching materials.
