The LGBTA Student Resource From 2001-2009 CLGBTE Meeting January 13, 2009 Allison Subasic, Director LGBTA Student Resource Center 101 Boucke Building University Park PA 16802 814-863-1248 www.sa.psu.edu/lgbt/ lgbta@psu.edu afs11@sa.psu.edu Allison Subasic has been at Penn State in her present position of eight years. Before that, she was the first coordinator at U.C. Davis. Change has happened slowly, but there have been a lot of changes since her arrival.

From The Beginning Resource Room Created January 31, 1994 Move to SA 2001, 1st full-time director Resources-Library, BBH251, Straight Talks, collaboration with CLGBTE in many areas-Support Network Growth over first four years, staffing increase, office space increase, resource increase, intern positions increased etc. University wide: Domestic Partner Benefits, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in non-discrimination statement, Rene Portland left, three changes in SA administration since 2001. Originally, the Student Resource Center was a part of Educational Equity; the center had one small room, and Sue Rankin was the Coordinator. In 2001, the Center became a part of Student Affairs and Allison was the first full time director.

Fall 2008 Accomplishments Collaborating with The School of Theatre on a fundraiser for the LGBTA SRC (new-academic collaboration) ICA LGBT Liaisons training of more than 40 coaches/trainers/ICA staff Facilitated Straight Talks in all athletic first year seminars Facilitated staff development for Eberly College of Science and Smeal School of Business Out in the Workplace alumni panel for current students Urvashi Vaid Keynote and Reception –LGBTA Lecture Series coordinated with Alumni Board Development efforts continues National Coming Out Week 2008 keynote, play, activities and planning with student groups Preliminary Pride Week planning for Spring 2009 Collaboration with CWS on LGBT Domestic Violence Program Presented 2 programs at Summer Leadership Conference Participated in international student orientation (diversity panel and tabling) Hosted weekend long LGBT Leadership Retreat for 21 students Over forty Straight Talk presentations Teaching BBH251 class Training twelve new Mentors and matching all past and new mentors with mentees Increasing the Support Network membership through drives in academic departments
