Chapter 1 Introduction to Computers

Prebell Day 1 and Objective Objective: Day 1--The student will recognize and illustrate computer system terminology Prebell Question:: Explain how you utilize your computer at home and describe one part of the computer system

Daily Agenda –Monday Day 1 Complete Prebell Question –Discuss Answer The teacher will allow students complete a Pre-Assessment- Computer Basic Skills. http://www.gcflearnfree.org Computer Basics under Extras Teacher will introduce Obsolete Technology-See handout and discuss/Demonstrate –Basic Computer Skills applications and terminology. Use presentation equipment to introduce terminology). Use computers to point out the location of each part as it is discussed and explain that computer skills are important in this course and future career plans Students will hi-lite terminology related to Basic Computer System and place in their ICT1 notebook for studying. Complete the Computer Components Exercise on the back of handout. Practice computer skills and terms using the website http://www.gcflearnfree.org and view video on computer system component Independent Activity: Web Quest-intro to Computer –Group Activity/Remedial Activity. Closure: Wrap up lesson with review questions. (See Power Point Presentation) Homework: Basic Computer Skills

Day 2 Objective –Week 6 Prebell Question –Voc. OBJECTIVE:Day 2 –The student will identify the four operating functions of a computer system (input, processing, storage and output).DOK 2-PLD-P PREBELL QUESTION –DAY 2 DESCRIBE ONE COMPUTER JOB SUCH AS A TECHNICIAN OR PROGRAMMER

Wednesday Day 2 Daily Agenda Complete Bell Work & Discuss Review previous lesson and discuss homework assignment reminder-Due Thurs. Allow students to complete previous day Web Quest.-15 minutes Introduce lesson on the Operating System 4 functions Discuss various operating systems with students--PowerPoint Complete activity on the operating system-vocabulary and discuss orally Continue keyboarding lesson Enrichment/Differentiated Instruction Activity: The students will work in groups and create a poster using the computer with the components of a computer system such as the input, output, storage device and processing devices and share with the class. Closure Wrap up with a review-Think, Pair and Share Homework: Complete Operating Systems Activity. Closure: Wrap up with a review. If time permits, students will practice online keyboarding practice. www.freetypinggame.net

Day 3 Objective Prebell Questions- Day 3 - The student will differentiate between hardware and software and their purposes as it relates to computer safety. PRE-BELL QUESTION –DAY 3 Why are safety precautions are so important when using a computer system.

Day 3 Wednesday--Daily Activities-Agenda Complete Day 4 Bell Work Question and Discuss Check Homework and Discuss Introduce lesson on safety precautions while using the computer system hardware and software. Discuss the various computer safety and care as it relates to hardware and software with students Read and complete the computer safety activities and care as it relates to hardware and software. Review all weekly concepts with students for computer test on Friday. Continue keyboarding lesson daily Differentiated Activities: Students will complete review activity on " Computer Basics Website--Go to http://www.learnthenet.com and complete: •Master the Basics--•Test your knowledge Homework: Study all notes/ handouts on Computer Basic and Components Skills—Study Test Friday Closure: Wrap up lesson with a review. (Think-Pair & Share)

Day 4 Thursday Bell Work and Objective Day 4 Objective---The student will review concepts/skills on computer fundamental and operating systems. Day 4 Bell Work Question: Name and describe 2 Computer System Vocabulary Terms from this week lessons.  

Day 4 Thursday Daily Agenda The teacher will introduce lesson and give purpose of the lesson. Review and check homework The teacher will review weekly lesson on Unit 3 Operating System with students. The student will review concepts/skills by completing www.everfi.com the 1st lesson on the Ignition Course Lesson 1 by logging in -20 mins. Review all weekly concepts with students for computer test on Friday. The students will continue keyboarding lesson daily Closure of Lesson: Wrap up with a review question. (Think-Pair-Share

Day 5 OBJECTIVE-PREBELL QUESTION Day 5- The student will demonstrate their strengths and weaknesses on the basic computer system skills with 70% accuracy. DOK 2-PLD-Prof. Pre Bell Question: Why is computer skills so important in the World of Work? Explain

Day 5 Friday Daily Agenda Bell Activity: Why are computer skills so important to the World of Work? Discuss Bell Work. Review weekly skills with students Complete a computer basic skills Test- Part 1 Continue keyboarding lesson, complete I-Ready Skills in Reading & Math or Cool Math games-instructional games. Wrap up with a Journal Entry/Review.
