Multiple Sclerosis (MS) By Varshini and Shelby (shellay)

What is Multiple Sclerosis? Unpredictable Disabling Within the Central Nervous System Disrupts flow of information within the Brain Also, between the Brain and Body Damages the Myelin Sheath Affects more Women than Men Between the ages of 20 to 40

Multiple Sclerosis

Causes Nobody knows for sure what causes Multiple Sclerosis (MS) It may be an Autoimmune disease When body tissue is attacked by it’s own Immune System Could be triggered by an unidentified environmental factor With the people who have the genes to get the disease MS is not hereditary, but someone with parent or sibling with MS is more likely to have MS

Signs and Symptoms Sign Bladder and Bowel problems Spasticity (Muscle spasms/stiffness) Walking difficulties Emotional changes Sexual Problems Numbness Tingling (in the face, body) Symptom Pain Depression Weakness Dizziness Fatigue may vary depending on duration of the attack

Percentage of people with the symptoms

Treatments and Cures No cure, only treatments well w/o therapy Medications only alter the course of the disease Many meds for each symptom and sign Injectable Oral Infused medications Treat MS relapses and spasticity with corticosteroids caused by inflammation in the central nervous system that damages the myelin coating around nerve fibers
